Biography
I am Ran. I was born in Jinan City, Shandong Province, China. I have been interested in mathematics since I was a child. I like thinking, playing cards, playing Chinese chess and some puzzle games. In 2008, I was recommended to the mathematics pilot class of the school of Mathematical Sciences of Nankai University through the mathematics competition, and I got my bachelor's degree in Mathematics in 2012. From 2012 to 2017, I studied nonlinear optimization under the guidance of my supervisor, Professor Ya-xiang Yuan, and obtained Ph. D from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. During this time, I learned a lot, not only limited to optimization theory and methods, but also being a man and some interests. From 2017 to 2020, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics of Columbia University. Under the joint guidance of Professor Qiang Du and Professor Simon J. L. Billinge, I worked on the inverse problem of nanostructures and the analysis of pair distribution function. This is the first time I applied the optimization method to practice, and I also found that the communication between different disciplines is really interesting. Then I came to the School of Statistics and Data Science of Nankai University and became an assistant professor, working on numerical optimization and its applications on nanostructure inverse problems and supply chain management.
